John Glasby was born in 1928, and gradu¬ated from University with an honours degree in Chemistry. He started his career as a research chemist for I.C.I, in 1952, and worked for them until his retirement. During the early 1960s, Glasby wrote dozens of paperback westerns, all of which were reprinted in hardcover and paperback four decades later. Following his retirement from I.C.I., Glasby produced a steady stream of new westerns, science fiction and crime novels, right up to his death in 2010.

Neil works hard at keeping the group of pioneers alive and well on the journey. They have hardships when things go wrong and food runs out but they are making good progress. Unfortunately, they have arrived at the land that two big cattle barons claim they own. They've also hired killers to keep everyone else out. When the killers get killed, the group starts riding hard across the land.
With hired guns after them, stampeding cattle, and a roaring river to cross, there's lots of action and you can't be sure who will be left alive when they reach their destination. When it looks like Neil has reaching the end of the road, he's saved by unlikely savior. It's an ironic touch and I liked it a lot. It looks like Neil might be ready to settle down and quit running...

Good Western story from the beginning to the very end. Kept me reading the whole book. Enjoyed this very much
The book was well written and spoke quite frankly and honestly of the problems that the pioneers faced when heading west across this great country.
The editorial provided by is mostly accurate except that Clem Jackson is the wagon master, not another gunfighter.
John Glasby wrote under a number of pen names, especially for the most recent books released by Black Horse Westerns. This book was not issued under that British based series.
JG has penned a wagon train western. The train makes it's way West until it hits cattle country. At the entrance to cattle county a hired gun patiently waited for the train to arrive. Then the process begins in ernest. The train members overcome the murderous fire by two separate ranchers. They encounter a sand storm, two sets of dangerous settlement and one who knows what will happen every step of the way. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

these are great to read and, I have enjoyed each one I have read
In general a good read. However, todays morality does not fit the western genre. After the gun fight at the saloon with the rancher that previously murdered the hero's father and threatened to kill the hero, together with everyone including children, in the wagon train, was allowed to leave. This action cheapens the plot and characters, as it is not reflective human nature, unless the author is a liberal. Political correct authors should avoid this genre.
